A Functional Approach to the Blood-Brain Barrier in Health and Trauma
Includes a Live Event on 05/14/2020 at 1:00 PM (EDT)
Join Dr. Robert Silverman for a webinar which will explore the blood brain barrier (BBB), a physical barrier between the brain and the circulating blood, which restricts the movement of all soluble proteins greater than 400 Da from the blood across to the brain. Dr. Silverman will discuss the importance of the BBB and risks to it, citing specific examples, including concussion or other traumatic brain injury (TBI), the BBB and intestinal barrier fail. He will explore scenarios which may allow for the invasion of intestinal bacterial toxins, neuronal tissue-binding food proteins or cross-reactive food protein antibodies into the once protected nervous system, and other risk factors related to BBB damage. Finally, Dr. Silverman will discuss the importance of implementing a pro-brain dietary protocol and treatment strategy to heal the broken BBB. By taking proactive strategies, the risk of neurological disease occurring after the concussion or other TBI, can be significantly reduced.
After viewing this webinar, registrants will be able to:
1.) Discuss the role of the blood-brain barrier in health and trauma
2.) Assess the gut and the brain for better management of chronic neurological disorders
3.) Analyze intestinal and blood-brain barrier dysfunctions
4.) Explain patient-friendly protocols to repair essential barriers when they are broken
