In this webinar, Dr. Karen Erickson will explore normal and abnormal posture and it's impact on the female patient throughout her physiological journey. You will learn how to evaluate sitting, standing and sleeping posture as well as how phones and computers impact posture and health. Dr Erickson will elucidate the important role chiropractors can play in the healthcare of our female patients. Chiropractic care and patient education can help avoid downstream consequences of poor posture in girls and women including spinal curvature, spinal pain and degeneration, muscle imbalance, headache, respiratory dysfunction, ligament laxity and bone density.

Women make up the majority of chiropractic patients. As a chiropractor, you are uniquely qualified to identify how posture impacts girls and women throughout their physiological journey. You will learn how female postural distortions from infancy into old age are exacerbated by prolonged sitting, sleeping posture, heavy handbags and backpacks, shoe wear, forward head position, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Postural distortions are further complicated by ligament laxity and loss of bone density. We will also explore the research on the psychosocial impact of posture on women. You will gain comprehensive clinical knowledge to help your female patients correct their posture through chiropractic adjustments, therapeutic exercise, and education.

Learning Objectives

1. Discuss normal and abnormal posture and its impact physically and emotionally on the female patient throughout her physiological journey.

2. Identify the causes and correction of postural abnormalities in girls and women during sitting, standing, lying, as well as during the use of phones and computers.

3. Discuss how chiropractors can play a key role in the lives of girls and women by clinically  identifying and addressing postural distortions that would otherwise create downstream consequences on spinal curvatures, spinal pain and degeneration, headache, respiratory dysfunction, ligament laxity and bone density.
