Medicare Coding and Documentation Toolkit, Part 2: The Beginning of Care

Increase your practice’s success by handling the Medicare patient’s case correctly from the beginning of treatment. Presented by Jennifer Rathmann, DC, and Lee Matthis, DC, this course will walk you through the important records you must keep to ensure proper payment for your services under Medicare. You will learn the components of quality, thorough clinical documentation such as medical or family history, consultation and initial outcomes assessment forms, physical examination (PART) forms, diagnosis, the treatment plan and functional goals, as well as expected patient response. You will also learn how to correctly code for the patient’s diagnosis as well as the importance of documenting the conversation with the patient regarding the path forward, which illustrates shared decision making between the provider and patient.
Medicare Coding and Documentation Toolkit Part 2: The Beginning of Care is the second course in a four-part series. It is recommended, though not required, that you take Part 1 prior to taking this course.

Dr. Lee Matthis is a 2002 graduate of Campbell University located in Buies Creek, NC where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Later, he received his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from the Palmer College of Chiropractic. During his education, he received many honors including graduating from the National Outdoor Leadership School in Lander, WY., the prestigious Vogt Leadership Society Award and the Virgil V. Strang Chiropractic Philosophy Award from Palmer College.
Jennifer Rathmann

Dr. Jennifer Rathmann serves as Tuck Chiropractic Clinic’s VP Of Clinical Excellence. As VP of Clinical Excellence, Dr. Rathmann is focused on clinical quality, clinical care development for doctors within the areas of guidelines and standards compliance, documentation, coding and billing, and outcome measures reporting. In addition, Dr. Rathmann coordinates all intra-professional collaborative activities for clinical quality and improvement.
Dr. Rathmann completed her undergraduate degree at State University of New York at Fredonia and completed her Doctor of Chiropractic degree at the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago, Illinois. She joined Tuck Chiropractic Clinic in 1999 and is currently a Senior Partner. She treats all patients including those with low back pain, neck pain, and headaches. She is also fully qualified to perform acupuncture. Dr. Rathmann sees patients in Tuck Chiropractic’s Blacksburg and Roanoke-Brandon Ave offices.
