Chiropractic Evaluation and Management of Common Pediatric Sports Injuries

This two-hour presentation will discuss evaluation, management and treatment of common sports injuries in the elementary and middle school pediatric population. Evaluation will involve a thorough and detailed history, exam and differential diagnosis of common conditions. Management will focus on chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue treatment and taping/bracing. Additional discussion will involve red flags, referral and co-management.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Understand how to evaluate common sports injuries in the elementary/middle school age pediatric population. 
  • Understand how to create a management plan for pediatric sports injuries including treatment recommendations, imaging and co-management.
  • Be able to perform common extremity adjustments, soft tissue treatment and taping of common pediatric sports injuries.

Sara Cuperus, DC, ICSC, CACCP, ATC (Moderator)

Dr Sara Cuperus is a CCSP, ICSC and Certified in Prenatal and Pediatric Chiropractic (CACCP)with almost 20 years of clinical experience in private practice in Central Minnesota. She graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth with a degree in Exercise Science and from Northwestern Health Sciences University with her Chiropractic degree. She founded the Chiropractic Performance Center in 2003 and has created a blended sports and pediatric practice with multiple providers. She has been actively involved in the Minnesota Chiropractic Association, holding positions as president and is currently the Education Committee Chair. She was honored to be selected as Chiropractor of the Year in Minnesota in 2020. She continues to learn, add certifications and experiences to her toolbox to better her patient experience.

Lisa Goodman, DC, ICSC, CACCP (Moderator)

Dr. Lisa Goodman is a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) and Certified Prenatal and Pediatric Chiropractor (CACCP). She is a CrossFit L1 and CrossFit Kids Certified Trainer. Dr. Goodman founded the multidisciplinary clinic, Washington Park Chiropractic in 2006 in Denver, Colorado. Prior to graduating as valedictorian of Palmer College of Chiropractic West, Dr. Goodman was actively involved as sports council president. Passionate about growing our profession, Dr. Goodman holds faculty positions at chiropractic colleges and enjoys teaching and mentoring the next generation of chiropractors. She is an active member and former committee member on the boards of the ACA Pediatrics Council and the ACA Sports Council.
