This course is designed to help DCs incorporate research into clinical practice to help them develop an evidence-based mindset and supportable clinical care management processes. The topic of spine risk management, with a special focus on Cauda Equina Syndrome is particularly important given potential for litigation if mistakes or oversights are made during the care of a patient. It is critical for DCs to understand the importance and mechanics of a good consultation and examination, especially for patients presenting for red flags associated with Low Back Pain. This issue is not only relevant for the health and safety of those we serve, but also good for the protection of the chiropractor.

Attendees will:

  • Learn to keep everything in perspective: understanding chiropractic philosophy vs. medical safety issues.
  • Learn the mechanics of a quality consult and exam.
  • Learn how to identify/screen patients who may be higher risk for spine fracture, cauda equina syndrome, and other spine conditions.
  • Review of clinical vignettes: What would YOU do in this circumstance?
  • Learn how to respond appropriately if the worst happens!
