Human trafficking, a slightly nicer way of saying slavery, is part of many aspects of daily life. In addition to the sex trade, persons are abducted or coerced into indentured service in labor, for organ removal, committing crimes, child marriages, benefits fraud, illegal adoptions and baby selling as well as child soldiers. The area of forced labor involves manufacturing, agriculture, cleaning, construction, textile production, catering, restaurants, health and elder care, salon services, fairs and carnivals, peddling and begging, and domestic servitude. It’s a crime that is often hidden in plain sight.

In this hour we will define the issue and the elements that go into the crime of human trafficking. We will discuss the scope of the issue in the United States and the impact on the victims. The warning signs and indicators you may see in clinical practice and how to respond will be reviewed.

Learning Objectives:

Define Human Trafficking
Describe the personal and social behaviors, work conditions and immigration status that can indicate human trafficking
Explain the special considerations necessary during the patient interview and list the clinical indicators of trafficking victims

This course is worth one (1) CE Credit in ACA-Approved and PACE-accepted states
