Identifying and Addressing Opioid and Substance Use Disorder in Practice

Content will be based on the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) model, a well-recognized model advocated by the Minnesota Department of Health. SBIRT aids in early intervention and treatment of individuals with or at risk of SUD. This course includes an overview of opioid misuse prevalence in Minnesota, ethical responsibilities of providers in addressing substance misuse, use of SBIRT for screening, brief intervention, and referral, best practices for co-managing individuals with concurrent pain and SUD, and considerations for culturally agile, trauma-informed application of SBIRT for a range of Minnesota communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the knowledge and skills needed to apply SBIRT in your practice.
  • Learn a de-siloed approach to facilitate effective and culturally responsive management of patients and clients at risk for SUD.
