
This five-hour course will define autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and illustrate the statistics, language, symbols, and myths of ASD, and provide tips for making your office more welcoming for ASD patients.
It explains how to use the provided new patient questionnaire template to shape the appointment, recognize patterns of the unique and often invisible associated health challenges of the autism spectrum, and generate a comprehensive, collaborative plan of care to support lifelong health and balance in autistic patients.
In addition to addressing the reasons for difficult behaviors, this course will share protocols for:
- Neurological support
- GI support
- Immune support
- Sensory support
- Oral Care support
- Healthy sleep support
- Dietary support
- Transitioning to adulthood
- Difficult behaviors
- When and how to order lab testing
- Team building, appropriate referrals, and using local and national level resources
- Risk reduction tips for working with autistic patients
- Customizable templates are provided for the new patient questionnaire, follow-up visit form, and support plans
Attendees will:
- Participate in a review of the definition of, basic facts, genetics, statistics, language, symbols and myths about autism spectrum disorder
- Learn actionable tips they can employ to make their office more welcoming to patients on the autism spectrum
- Participate in a review of the unique and often invisible areas of health challenges on the autism spectrum
- Learn how to apply the intake questionnaire to generate a treatment plan and appropriate referrals.

Janet C. Lintala, DC
Autism Health, PLLC
As an autism mother, author, and clinician, Janet Lintala, DC, has been immersed in the world of autism both personally and professionally for over twenty-five years.
Janet volunteers at Autism Health, a center she founded that serves patients from 20 states and focuses on nonprescription approaches supporting vibrant health for children and adults on the autism spectrum.
She is the author of an award-winning book, The Un-Prescription for Autism, which focuses on non-prescription support of the invisible medical problems of the autism spectrum that can so dramatically affect sleep, bowels, mood, language, and learning.
Janet serves as Secretary for the West Virginia State Rehabilitation Council staffed the disAbility Awareness Challenge for the 2013 Scouts BSA National Jamboree, and was a member of the Advisory Panel to the Boy Scouts of America National Disabilities Awareness Council from February 2014 to 2017.
She is the founder and President of The Un-Prescription Foundation for Autism, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization with an educational mission. She is also on the NCMIC Speakers Bureau, presenting from coast to coast on the specific health challenges of the autism spectrum and how to address them in the office.
