A system is “a set of principles or procedures according to which something is done; an organized framework or method.” A system can provide a level of certainty or a standard operating procedure in respect to how to assess a patient and proceed with treatment based on evidence-informed findings; but it does not imply that everyone will receive the same treatment or even have the same goals or outcomes. In health care, a well-designed system informs and guides care, regardless of who is seeking treatment from a chiropractor. Further, a system may involve a variety of different assessment tools, treatment techniques, exercises, equipment, etc. It guides clinical decision-making based on good information as opposed to a treatment plan based on trial and error.
